Additional Session Details
Participants will learn to “pick battles” by identifying “big no’s” or unsafe behaviors that must be addressed in order to keep programs emotionally and physically safe. Ramapo’s tool for conflict resolution: W.O.W. (What’s Up/Own Up/ What Now) will be presented and practiced. Participants will identify best practices for implementing W.O.W. as a restorative protocol for responding not only to conflicts between young people but also in response to conflicts between young people and adults (especially in regards to youth not following community-wide expectations.) Finally, participants will learn to distinguish between consequences that teach skills and strengthen relationships and punitive responses that exclude young people and weaken relationships.
